Karen Clarke is a British artist whose practice encompasses painting and sculpture. Since the 1970s she has been developing a distinctive language of layered mark-making – rich in its subtle relations of form and colour.
Oil paintings form a large part of her artistic output. Their visual presence is characteristic; with a richness of cascading forms and colour-fields vying and resonating with each other in a distinct poetry of vision. In her work an intuitive synthesis of gesture and shape allow her instinctive response to landscapes remembered and reformed to resound.
